Spokes on the screen when another omni boat pulls up

Sandy POct 31, 2026

At the last tournament a boat with the same sonar set up a quarter mile away and my screen filled with rotating spokes. Is there any setting that helps when two omni boats work the same edge, or do you just live with it?

You're not alone, the reference notes that boats with the same model and frequency working near each other can interfere, and rotating spokes are the classic sign.

Two things are worth trying. First, the CSH-10 has an interference rejecter, so turn that on. Second, the CSH-10's frequency is selectable from 81.5 to 85.5 kHz (83.5 kHz is the default). Moving a few kHz away from the other boat's setting may help a lot, and if you can reach them on the radio, agreeing to sit on different frequencies is the cleanest fix. I don't know the exact menu path or how much separation is needed, so check the owner's manual. I also don't have confirmation that the CSH-8L MK2 offers the same frequency choice, so check that manual if that's your unit.

If neither works, a little extra distance, or a different relative position, often reduces it. Lowering gain can also cut the spokes, but at the cost of weaker real targets, so go gradually. The captain interviews at https://omnicsh.com/from-the-bridge also cover adjusting gain and other settings on the fly.

I'd like to hear from owners and captains who fish tournaments: what frequency or rejecter settings have worked for you when another omni boat pulls up?
