Eight short lessons, in order. Your progress is saved in this browser.
How omni works
Why a full circle every half second changes how you fish.
Lesson 2Tilt and the beam
Where your beam really is, and why the seabed shows up as a ring.
Lesson 3Reading the screen
Colors, gain, clutter, target lock and marks.
Lesson 4Stabilization and rough water
What roll does to a 6-degree beam, on real screens.
Lesson 5Field guide to echoes
Bait, schools, single fish, bottom, wrecks and noise.
Lesson 6From the bridge
What tournament captains who run omni actually do.
Lesson 7Installation and upkeep
Tank, travel, venting, sea trial and the haul-out checklist.
Lesson 8Hands-on trainer
Practice tilt and target lock, then take the marlin challenge.
What a rolling boat does to the picture
These are two real Furuno CSH-10 screens of the same water. Drag across the image. With the stabilizer off, roll and pitch swing the 6° beam above and below the fish, and the picture smears.

Where is your beam?
Most of reading omni is knowing what depth you're looking at. Move the tilt and the fish and watch the beam. The same math drives the CSH-10's on-screen tilt indicator.
Beam explorer
Side view of the CSH-10's 6° transmit beam. Move the sliders and watch where the beam goes, where it meets the bottom, and whether the fish is in it.
From the bridge
Reading the screen is the easy part. The hard part is getting the crew to stop watching behind the boat.
Don't chase every mark. Find your species' school, its edges and the direction it's moving.
When a mark disappears, circle and search in different directions. It turned one lost mark into two blue marlin.

The two Furuno omni models
Both run in the same 190 mm hull tube, so a CSH-8L MK2 boat can step up to a CSH-10 without new hull work.

CSH-10
Beam stabilization on transmit and receive, 32-color picture, target lock with speed and course, chart overlay on NavNet TZtouchXL, a hoist that moves in 7 to 10 seconds.
