If you are weighing a CSH-10, the useful question is not which is better but what carries over. This lesson lays out what changes and what Furuno says is reused.
At a glance
- The CSH-10 reuses the same hull tube
- The hull unit, shaft and cables are new
- The CSH-10 runs on 24 VDC and uses an HDMI monitor
- No official upgrade kit or trade-in was found
About 9 minutes. Part of Own it in the CSH-8L MK2 course.
What changes
- Frequency: 83.5 kHz, selectable from 81.5 to 85.5, against 85 kHz.
- Beams: a 6-degree transmit beam against about 13, with digital beamforming.
- Range: up to 2,000 m, against 1,600.
- Display: 32 colors against 16, over HDMI at 1280 by 1024.
- Hoist: about 10 or 7 seconds against 20 or 14, and 20 knots lowered against 18.
- Controls: ten user programs, a Bluetooth remote option, and record and playback.
- Stabilization: a standard motion sensor with independent transmit and receive stabilization.
- Fish tools: target lock that can follow a school, and a fish estimate mark.
- Network: Ethernet to a TZtouchXL.
What carries over
Furuno says the CSH-10 uses the same hull tubes as the CSH-8L MK2 and CSH-5L MK2 for ease of retrofit. Its manual specifies a 190 mm inner diameter, with a minimum tank length of 750 mm for 600 mm travel or 550 mm for 400 mm travel and a tank flange at least 100 mm above the waterline. If your tube meets those, it can be reused.
What does not
The whole hull unit assembly is new: hoist, shaft, flange, tank guide and transducer. The shaft lengths differ, so a new shaft is bought. The CSH-10 is a 24 VDC sonar, so an AC-only boat needs an AC supply for it. The cables are new, and the monitor must take HDMI. Boats that run 25 knots or more need a fin ahead of the tank hole.
What Furuno does not say
Furuno's documents do not say whether the MS-100, the CSH7040 remote or other accessories are reused, and we found no official upgrade kit or trade-in. Ask your dealer in writing.
Where to go next
The side-by-side numbers are on the CSH-10 vs CSH-8L MK2 page, and csh10.com has a page on upgrading from a CSH-8L. The CSH-10 course on this site covers running the newer sonar.
